The Rosarito Beach Pro opened up this morning with an amazing ceremony
hosted by the
Tourism Board of Rosarito Beach. It included a live military marching
salute and an extensive thank you to the people and staff of Rosarito
Beach.

Round one of the Men’s Pro saw Drew Erickson as a standout heading all
the way to the semi’s and was finally stopped by Jorge Colomer &
current USBA Champion Jeff Hubbard. Another early round head turner
was Robby Gray (AUS) who flipped his way to the quarters.

Heading into the Semi’s the Hubb’s turned up the performance level and
produced the scores to get them both into the final. Following their
lead was top contender Jacob Romero and newcomer Jorge Colomer.

The final was one of the best shows of the day with Jeff and Dave
Hubbard having back-to-back high scores twice within the 25 minute
heat. Dave struck first with a long left barrel to roll combo that set
the bar for the rest. Jeff swung back with a take off spin to even
longer barrel then his brother Dave; as to say, “we’re not done yet
little brother!” Jorge Colomer was consistent performing three
separate ARS’s in the final while Jacob Romero, who had done well all
day, was not been able to find the scores he needed. When the dust
settled Jeff was able to narrowly edge out his brother Dave for the
Rosarito Beach Pro Men’s Pro title.

Following the final the Rosarito Beach Pro held the drop knee rounds
starting with quarters and running through the final. Dave Hubbard,
also known as Yoga man for his natural barrel riding skills, was the
star of the show through the buzzer. The semi final had a strong
performance by the Hawaiians progressing into the finals with Dave’s
brother Jeff and Maui’s Marcus Rodrigues accompanying him. The only
non Hawaiian finalist was Jason Bitzer, a dark horse out of New
Jersey, contesting for the first time ever in a USBA DK Pro final!
Dave continued his dominance with a barrel to snap to win it.
