The 3rd Annual SCION NYBB Pro - Dropknee Division

NEW YORK, September 9, 2007 - The 1st Heat in the Dropknee division saw Boogie Nation and Hawaiian sensation Dave Hubbard going up against Maryland’s finest Brian Stoehr, with Miguel Ochoa and Ryan Tamashiro representing New York and poised for an early upset. A valiant effort from the hometown boys (Ochoa 3rd and Tamashiro 4th) just wasn’t enough to fend off Brian Stoehr, who dominated the heat and took first, with Dubb a close 2nd and advancing to the semi’s. Heat #2 featured Willy Petrovic (HI), North Carolina’s own Ryan Rhodes, and Ryan Wade reprensting New Jersey. Petrovic would win the heat with Rhodes taking a commanding second to send them both to the semi’s. Heat #3 saw Hawaiians Riley Dutro, Kingsley Uaiwa and New York’s Peruvian transplant Miguel Aguilar in a fierce heat, with Uaiwa finishing first alongside fellow Islander Riley Dutro. The 4th and Final heat had World Champion Jeff Hubbard (HI) battling the pride of Florida Dan Worley and USBA mastermind Jason Bitzer (NJ). Hubb and Bitz put up valiant efforts but in the end Worley’s knee was to much for both as he took first and Hubb 2nd to move them forward into the semi’s. The Semi’s kicked off with Stoehr (MD) , Petrovic (HI), Hubb (HI) and Uaiwa (HI) battling it out in what seemed like improving conditions, as the tidal push seemed to give the struggling surf a little extra oomph and a little shorey reform on the inside. Jeff Hubbard once agan showed his versatility and dominated the heat taking 1st, with Brian Stoehr taking 2nd and once again, advancing both competitors into the NYBB Pro DK Finals. Kingsley Uaiwa finished 3rd and Willy Petrovic 4th. The second Semi-final heat showcased Ryan Rhodes (NC), Riley Dutro (HI), Dan Worley (FL), and Dave Hubbard (HI). Once again, Dan “Worleybird” owned the heat claiming first place, earning both himself and Dave Hubbard (2nd) a place in the Finals! Ryan Rhodes threw down a strong effort as usual and finished 3rd, and Riley Dutro finishing 4th.

The Dropknee Final enjoyed what seemed to be the best conditions of the day, and the fans were all fired up, lining the shore and hooting all the competitors on. Dave Hubbard was as entertaining as ever, pulling out all the stops and fiercely defended his NYBB Pro DK Title, taking first place with a series of snaps, cutties, floaters, spins and even a few extra moves of his own we couldn’t begin to describe let alone name! Second place was hotly contested and came right down to the wire, with Brian Stoehr taking 2nd, and Dan Worley right behind him in 3rd. Jeff Hubbard once again made the NYBB Pro DK winner’s circle taking home 4th Place.
