Dillon Druz (NJ) Clinches USBA Am Title
12/23/07 On the first day of the USBA National Bodyboarding Tour season finale,the Ledges Pro (Maui, HI), Manasquan, New Jersey’s 14-year-old ’super grom’ Dillon Druz clinched the USBA National Amateur Championship title. Going into the last event of this year’s tour, Reis Yonihiro (Oahu, HI) had a legitimate mathematical shot at the title but was eliminated in semi-final heat number one thus putting an end to his hopes of attaining this year’s amateur championship. Dillon would go down in semi-final heat number two but had already secured enough of a points lead to be declared the 2007 US amateur champion. He took hold of the Amateur Division points lead in September by sweeping the northeastern portion of the tour with wins at the Jenk’s Pro (Pt. Pleasant, NJ) and the NYBB Pro (Lido Beach, NY). Dillon solidified his hold on the points lead with a second place finish in November at the Rosarito Pro (Baja, Mexico).
